Swapping X and Y axis

One of the things that I first noticed about my machine was as far as conventional milling machines go, the X and Y axis were the opposite way round. This made things awkward when designing in CAD, or importing files, because you normally draw things from left to right, or flat. The easiest way to do this is to simply swap the pins. See the Mach 3 screenshots below.

This photo shows the normal axis direction. The Y axis being the longest one (600mm)

However, I would recommend you set your machine up using the normal settings, and make sure the machine is cutting properly before swapping the axis around.

Above is the normal set up for the step pin and dir pin motor outputs. X 2,3 Y 4,5

Above the step pin and dir pin have swapped axis X 4,5 Y 2,3

Above is the normal set up for input signals if home switches are fitted. X pin number 12 Y pin number 13

Above the input pins, if home switches are fitted have been swapped. X 13 Y12

By reversing or swapping the X and Y axis, the longest part of the bed is X and the shortest is Y.
